forgive me for saying this but this year's student council presidential rally was well ... not as good as the previous years'.
it all starts out (just like the previous years) with speeches done by the potential candidates. however unlike the previous years. their 'speech' skills were no match even for ones like nicole, shuqi & xiaojun last year. all they did was read right from the script without a single eye contact with the audience. HELLO, the support you're hoping to gain is from us students and not the paper! to add on, the speech wasn't well done, all they did was go around the bush.
after that, we had Q & A session. usually candidates could 'redeem' themselves here especially then their speech wasn't as good as their opponent's, so i believe. BUT NO, each time we ask a question, they weren't answering straight to the point plus little or no elaboration. Also none of them seemed prepared as well. Even one of them started answering with a slight rude tone.
GIRL, WE ASK QUESTIONS BECAUSE WE CARE FOR THE WELFARE OF OUR SCHOOL. EVEN THE AH BENGS ARE ASKING QUESTIONS OKAY!if this was a test both their papers would be screaming
NAQ (not answering question) !!!
for example, when asked about how they would improve the school enviroment one of their reply was:
" i'll try to improve the canteen food, as well as adding (something about) a vegetarian stall.
THE CANTEEN FOOD IS THE STAFF'S PROBLEM, NOT YOURS. (as quoted by what hannah said.)
im pretty sure that there's alot to improve. for instance, study corners? more variety of activites for the students? think about it.
also, when asked about sharing their views and what they hope to do to improve the school, their reply:
'' i don't know.''
SERIOUSLY?! *facepalm*
oh yes, and when they were asked questions, they kept discussing with each other (yes it was obvious girls.)
LOOK, IT'S YOU AGAINST THE OTHER AND NOT YOU 2 AGAINST THE SCHOOL. when one aspires to be a leader, one should already have their own views as to what can be done and not "wait for the teachers' instructions." if it is meant to be that way, the i do not see the point of having a president. yes i am rather (okay abit) appreciative of your willingness to lead and improve, at least i hope that's your reason of wanting to be a president and not because of the title and how good it'll look in your testimonial.
yes miss ming said that they are new and they need time. but look, this is an election. not a chance game whereby we vote and PRAY that the winner is a good president. we need to be assured that who we have voted for is capable of doing potentially great things.
as for who to vote? i believe ... none, at least not yet.
i hope that the election would be postponed and the candidates should do some thorough thinking followed by another speech, hopefully then we have a better understanding of them.
just to clear things up, i don't hate any of them after all, it took them great courage to do this.
something im sure not all of us are able to do so right? we all learn from mistakes, no one's perfect.
to end this, i wish good luck to all the candidates and hopefully, everything will turn out the way it should be! :)
(p.s: i apologize if my blog post seems rather harsh. but hey, all this for the student council right? :) )
